Mas La Plana 2015 by Familia Torres, named one of the finest age-worthy wines of 2021 by Wine Enthusiast

Mas La Plana 2015 (DO Penedès), the flagship wine of Familia Torres, has made the list of Top 100 Cellar Selections, published annually by the prestigious magazine Wine Enthusiast. The selection features the best wines, with the greatest cellaring potential, tasted throughout the year. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Penedès placed at number 36, with 97 points, making it the highest-ranked of the 4 Spanish wines – and the only Catalan wine – included on the list.

For the editors at Wine Enthusiast, this “Cabernet Sauvignon from Northeast Spain” is one of several interesting discoveries included in this year's ranking, recently published on the magazine's website, where classics from “Bordeaux, Burgundy, Barolo, and Napa are well represented”. All of the wines “exhibit pedigree, structure, and staying power – the hallmarks of age-worthy wines”.

Wine critic Michael Schachner, a member of the tasting panel, noted the aromatic power of this dry, warm vintage and its "snappy acidity" which "settles with ease and elegance".  He goes on to describe the wine as having "plenty of depth" and "a smooth and balanced finish", stating that it will hold its potential for many years but recommends drinking it between 2025 and 2045.

Wine Enthusiast, the internationally renowned US wine magazine, also published an article by Michael Schachner in its October issue titled With perfect temps and ideal yields, a Spanish vintage for the ages in which he discusses the excellence of the 2016 vintage for Spanish wines. He spoke to Miguel Torres Maczassek, General Manager of Familia Torres, who describes 2016 as one of the best vintages of the past decades. Featured in the article is another flagship of the Penedès winery, Reserva Real 2016 (DO Penedès): with 96/100 points, the highest-scoring of the selected wines.
